Hakadal Sled Dog Seminar, 2009
The Hakadal Sled Dog Seminar was held on September 5 & 6 in Harestua, Norway. Joe was honored to be invited to speak about his expeditions in Alaska’s Arctic with our team of purebred Alaskan Malamutes.
This is a photo of all the guest speakers at the seminar.

All the talks were great and the seminar had the highest attendance since the Hakadal Sledehundklubb has been hosting them…165!
There were many vendors selling anything from dog food to harnesses, to tents, to sleds, and the list goes on…..
Snorre Naess was selling his sleds.
Petter Ringerike, a fellow Malamute musher and breeder, was representing his dog food sponsor. We had the opportunity to visit his kennel, Trapline, which we will address in greater detail in a separate blog post.
Jan Reinertsen explained to Joe his research of sled dog heart rates. Jan is a very popular harness maker in Norway and world wide. His store is located in Harestua.
There were so many insightful discussions of dog sledding in Alaska and in Norway with various breeds. The mushing community here in Norway is quite large and seems to be growing every season.
Here, Joe and Tome are “talking shop!”
Some people brought their friends!
And when the seminar was over, there was a fantastic BBQ and more great discussion. The Norwegians definitely know how to have a good time!
Joe and I had a lot of fun!
We’d like to thank our hosts, Elisabeth and Per Olav, for welcoming us into their home and sharing their culture and history with us in-depth. We had a great time with them!
