Malamute of the Month – Bucko

Our Mal of the Month for December is Bucko!

Bucko is a youthful, happy-go-lucky type of guy. He enjoys the luxury of the couch, lots of hugs and kisses, and quite a few treats.  We have found over the years that the more a malamute is incorporated into regular family life, the better lead dog he turns out to be, and that is the case with Bucko.  He has all the traits of a great expedition leader: attentive, athletic, small-framed, large lung capacity, and efficient metabolism.  He’s had two arctic expeditions under his belt, and now that he’s four years old, we’re trying him out in lead.  He’s doing great!!  Bucko is very eager to run in front.

Here’s a picture of him running in lead on the local trail system alongside his mentor, Bear.  Look at those intense eyes and that enthusiastic smile.  He’s having fun!
